Saturday 23rd November 2019. My initial thoughts.
OBAD
13.55 Lingfield Documenting HRP Score 77
Only 7 runners and no jumps! Documenting is showing at almost Evens with the next horse showing an early price of 7/2. Betfair notes that it should be quite comfortable, so I am going for a WIN on this race. Especially with an HRP score of 77.
TRIPLER
12.20 Ascot Valtor HRP Score 75
Oh no! Another long race with jumps. Valtor has an early price of 11/8 closely followed by the 2nd favourite at 11/4. There are another 2 horses fairly close behind with 1 long shot at 30/1.
Hmmm. Tricky. I know it has a very good HRP score but 2 mile hurdles worry me. There are only 5 runners so it does have a really good chance. However, they are paying out on 2 places and the place odds are fairly decent. I will monitor closely. I may go for the SPLIT on this one as the place odds would give a half decent return if it did win.

14.05 Ascot Altior HRP Score 75
The name Altior rings a bell. I’ve heard it before so it’s either a horse or some wannabe stars from X-Factor. Only 3 runners in this race. Altior has a great HRP score although the next horse is close behind, odds-wise. The 3rd horse was collected from the local dairy just to make up the numbers. (Ooops – shouldn’t have said that – just watch!)
Very difficult to go against a horse with a track record of 19-19 over jumps so I will be going for a WIN on this one. (That is, if I have to go to the 3rd race. I hope I have hit my 2.5% target before then.)
Today’s selections all have excellent HRP scores so should prove to be good. I don’t know if the guys at HRP “Head Office” agree with my thoughts or if this is how the software should be used. All I am trying to do is make a small profit every day, grow my Bank and make life a little more comfortable, money wise.
One niggle today is that unfortunately, the 2nd and 3rd races are very close together. If you do have to go on to the 3rd race, keep your wits about you when placing your bets.
In the past, I have looked at the clock, panicked and bet the wrong amount/wrong odds/wrong price. I now make a mental decision to be extremely careful when calculating the stakes and placing my bets when 2 races are close together.
I hope we have a good day, unlike yesterday’s unfortunate scenario. I used to play rugby and I hated playing in this sort of weather. Cold, wet, windy. Hats off to the jockeys AND the horses for going out, day after day in these conditions. (And associated lads & lasses who look after the animals.)
As I said, my daily target is 2.5%, so if I hit it on Race 1, I will stop that particular system for the day. The choice is yours as to whether or not you feel “It’s your day” and want to carry on. If you work out your Bank doubling every month by sticking at 2.5% daily, you will have a really healthy Bank after 6 months. That’s my attitude.
I know a lot of people will think I’m going for the easy option, but why cause excessive stress and worry when a nice 2.5% a day hits the spot?
TRIPLER 10% RATCHET
Straight 10% of Bank as the stake on the 1st 2 selections. There is no place market on the last race as there are only 3 runners.
Wait for the result of the 1st race to see how we are doing against our target before putting the 2nd bet on. If the Place Odds are under 1.20, I will seriously consider as to whether or not to place a bet.
Target for the day as always, is to win 2.5% of my Starting Bank. Good luck guys.
Afternoon Rob.
Good afternoon Francis. I hope you had a profitable day.
Hi Rob. Can I just ask you something? If you have a day like yesterday when you didn’t reach your 2.5% target, do you set your next target to the new reduced
/lower bank or do you try to hit the original 2.5% target?
Hi Lionel.
The 2.5% target is always part of the highest bank point. Obviously, it doesn’t have to be! It’s just the way I and other Club holders tend to work.
The Ratchet is built off on that principle, of course.
